PSV did not seize the opportunity Sunday night to take the 15th Johan Cruijff Schaal in history. The game was goal-rich and spectacular for the neutral viewer, but Peter Bosz and Joey Veerman are critical.
"It wasn't a good game, from either side," the head coach begins. "I guess it's spectacular: 4-4, but it wasn't good football. Too many mistakes were made. Almost every deep ball became a goal, that's where we have to defend better as a team. At the same time, I don't close my eyes to the situation; the battered back line and some guys who have only just joined. We are going to analyze it, discuss it and improve."
Difference in goals
Joey Veerman also points to personal mistakes. "It's a shame to give away goals like that. It wasn't necessary. As a player, you have the feeling that we are going to score those goals anyway, but if you then keep giving them away, it becomes very difficult," says the Volendam native, who points to a difference between the goals for and against. "We create the chances from quality and we get the chances against from mistakes we make ourselves."
Peter Bosz argues that the strategy was executed well, though. "The plan was to force Wellenreuther to his left leg and to the long ball and then win the air duel. We did that well. We were also in control for my feeling, but every time Feyenoord played deep, they became dangerous. And that's not allowed."
