Immediately after the defeat at the Signal Iduna Park, head coach Peter Bosz and captain Luuk de Jong interpret the match. Both stated that PSV was very good in the match after a difficult start, making the result all the harder.
"When something is unnecessary, it hits harder than when you are played away. That happened in the first 30 minutes, of course. We didn't get any pressure on it. From the moment we played one-on-one, we got a grip on it again," said Bosz, who saw a different PSV in the second half. "I thought it was great how we played the second half, but the last ball - the hardest pass in football - that's where we just fell short. In the end it's about scoring and we didn't do that. In that respect, it wasn't too bad either, because at times it was only about inches."
The coach draws the blame for the first phase. "I sent them into the match the wrong way, so we didn't get a grip on it. After that, in a stadium with so much noise, it is difficult to transfer changes to the team. So that took a while." Bosz is proud that his team was nevertheless so close. "When the quarterfinals are within reach you are doing something right. We have a great team. It is and remains a great season."
Proud
Captain Luuk de Jong also sat through it quite a bit during the press conference. "I'm extremely bummed. You want to be decisive, especially at moments like these. We should have rewarded ourselves," said Luuk, closing on a positive note. "Nevertheless, I am proud of the team; how we played in the group stage and how we are playing here. I've never had so much fun in a season as I did this year. We are still having a very nice season. It's one of the best selections I've played with at PSV. I think the organization within the club can make sure we have good selections in the coming years as well."
