Phillip Cocu and his squad have put the defeat against Feyenoord behind them. The coach told that Friday afternoon during the weekly press conference. The new goal is second place, which entitles the team to a place in the preliminary round of the UEFA Champions League. "If we put up a very good series that is still possible," he said.
Tick
Cocu acknowledged that PSV needed some time to process the slap handed out by leaders Feyenoord on Sunday. "We needed a few days to get over that. To give it a place as it were and to focus on the new goal. After Wednesday's training session, I felt we could put the defeat behind us."
Cocu saw his selection slowly but surely push the limits again on Thursday. The enjoyment of the game returned and so, according to him, PSV is ready for the home game against Roda JC. "We had a tick, up to us to show that we have enough mental ability to win the game. I want us all to show that we are going for second place. If we put up a very good series that is still possible. Although I realize we don't have it in our own hands."
Saturation
In recent days, reports of saturation in the PSV squad have appeared in various media. The players are said to be less "hungry" for success than previous years. Cocu partly agrees, comparing Feyenoord's attitude to that of his PSV in recent years. "Feyenoord radiates in everything that it is a championship team. That can make a few percent difference. We have had that in the past, but have a little less of that this season. That's not something you can evoke or fuel, otherwise everyone would always have it. Something like that develops during a season."
Van Ginkel missing
Cocu will not have Marco van Ginkel at his disposal against Roda JC. The midfielder who dropped out last week is recovering well, but is not fit enough for a place in PSV's matchday squad. "He is focusing on next week's match," Cocu said.
