Niek Schiks has extended his contract until mid-2027 and has been added to the A squad by Head Coach Peter Bosz. The 20-year-old goalkeeper has been under the crossbar sixteen times this season in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. Due to his match performance and commitment on the training pitch, he is a permanent member of the main squad as of today.
Niek joined the PSV Academy as a field player in 2012, where it quickly became clear that the Boxmeer goalkeeper has qualities that come in handy under the crossbar. Step by step he was fully retrained as a goalkeeper, and with success: Niek went through all youth teams and made his debut in professional football in 2022 at Young PSV. With the promising team, he has become the first choice under the crossbar this season. In addition to his appearances in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, he was active in the UEFA Youth League and the Premier League International Cup.
Good on the ball
"He is an extremely eager to learn and I consider him a valuable addition to our goalkeeping corps," said Head Coach Peter Bosz. "Apart from the fact that he is very good at blocking shots and in one-on-one situations, he is also good on the ball. I am happy that we can welcome him to the main squad."
Director of Football Affairs Earnest Stewart is proud that the newest member of the A-selection has extended his contract for three years. "He is a talented boy with a particularly good attitude. When a player from PSV Academy joins PSV 1 and at the same time extends his contract, it can safely be called a success story."
