Captain Luuk de Jong once again lived up to his reputation as a header specialist and PEC executioner Thursday night. He scored his 12th and 13th league goals against the Zwolle side, helping PSV to a 4-0 win, but afterwards credited Steven Bergwijn for his 2-0. "A great action and with that the match was over," De Jong said.
'Delightful'
Bergwijn dribbled from PSV's half towards the PEC goal after an hour of play and rewarded that dribble with a goal. Before halftime, De Jong had already nodded PSV to 1-0 from a corner. "Standard situations are one of our qualities. I love getting the balls like that," said De Jong, who saw PSV struggle a bit in the first half.
"We don't give away much, but we didn't really get through either," De Jong felt. "When they get behind the ball with a lot of men, they try to draw us out to create spaces. We know that and we anticipate that. Fortunately, we have the quality that we can always score a goal. The goal gives more freedom, although we were only more dominant and stronger after halftime."
Van Bommel satisfied
Mark van Bommel underlined his captain's words. "As the match progressed we played better and better," the head coach thought. "PEC is a difficult team and sometimes things just didn't work out. But certainly after the loss against Ajax I am satisfied. It went a bit stiff in the beginning, but we scored four goals and gave nothing away."
