Head coach Roger Schmidt and captain Denzel Dumfries looked ahead to perhaps the decisive match in the group stage of the Europa League at the Estádio Nuevos Los Cármenes. ''Granada has the best papers, we are now second and must win to keep it in their own hands,'' Schmidt said of the match.

''It's a very important match,'' Dumfries continued. ''You set certain goals prior to the season and one of them is to be active in the Europa League after the winter. We want to achieve that and for that it is very important to win.''

Rest
When asked if Dumfries benefited much from the rest he received against Sparta Rotterdam, the defender responded in agreement; ''It is a difficult season, in which we play many games in quick succession it was the right time to take extra rest and recover better.''

Some people agreed with Dumfries, others thought it was a bad choice. Roger Schmidt doesn't care about those opinions; ''I don't care what people think about it. It is a very special time, which demands a lot from my players. I know exactly how fit my players are and I have to watch over them carefully to make sure they don't get injured. We want to compete on all fronts and it is impossible to play with the same eleven every game. I am also happy that others were able to get more minutes on Sunday. We won, so I look back on a good day.''

Focus is most important
For a long time, Schmidt did not want to linger on the game against Sparta Rotterdam. ''Our focus now is on Granada. That's the most important at the moment.'' Both Dumfries and the coach felt that the first game (1-2) was decided on details. ''We played a good first half and were beaten by a standard situation and some clever actions. We now know how smart and aggressive they can be and we have to be prepared for that,'' Dumfries said. Schmidt also sees focus as the element that could be better compared to the first match; ''We analyzed them and they are tactically and mentally strong. I think it will be a 50/50 match, once again decided on details. In that, our focus is very important.''
