PSV will play an away match against FC Volendam in the second round of the KNVB Beker on Thursday night at 18:30. The match is an encounter between the Eredivisie's frontrunner and the Jupiler League's straggler, aiming for the eighth final of the cup tournament.
Eight years ago
The last time PSV and FC Volendam met was more than eight years ago. That was the last season the Volendammers played in the Eredivisie. In the Kras Stadion, the supporters got to see a match rich in goals that was won 5-3 by PSV. That is no guarantee at all, as only 33-year-old Henny Schilder was on the field at the time.
Waiting for win
Those were different times in Volendam. Nowadays, the North Hollanders have been staying in the Jupiler League for years. Often as a sub-topper, but this year coach Misha Salden's team is at the very bottom of the league table. Volendam did not win yet and only got four points in ten games. The team's only win this season was the 3-1 victory over Quick Boys in the first round of the KNVB Cup. With the poor start to the season, Volendam will be eager for cup success.
Kwakman
Kees Kwakman is the most seasoned player in Volendam's selection. The 34-year-old midfielder played for NAC Breda and FC Groningen, among others. In total he played 144 matches in the Eredivisie and scored thirteen goals. Kwakman enjoyed his education in the fishing village and returned in July 2015 after a South African adventure.
