Luuk de Jong scored his 100th goal in PSV's shirt Sunday afternoon, but was mostly happy afterwards that PSV kept the points in Eindhoven. "Who scores the goals doesn't matter to me. As long as we win," he told FOX Sports.
"For me, the victory is always the most important thing," he told me earlier. Then De Jong looked back at his 100th goal in the PSV shirt, which characteristically went off his head. "All I could do was extend that ball. I tried to put a little feel in it so it fell over the goalkeeper. I looked over and saw the ball was in," said De Jong, who out of 100 goals, 44 were scored with his head, 37 with the right and 19 with the left.
Later in the game, he also made his 101st and 102nd. "We want to play dominant and always keep going. I thought we played convincingly after halftime. With a lot of opportunities and a lot of chances. It doesn't always work out because we try to get out as quickly as possible, but it's nice that we did win 5-0."
Mixed feelings with Van Bommel
Mark van Bommel had mixed feelings about the victory over Fortuna Sittard and that was largely due to the loss of Steven Bergwijn. The striker cried out in pain after he appeared to land incorrectly in a duel and left the field on a stretcher. "It will take some time to wait, he is now in the hospital," the head coach said.
Furthermore, Van Bommel thought his team was sloppy especially before halftime. "We did not keep playing in our formation and many passes were not good. After halftime, when Gakpo came in, things went better. He brought some more life into it and after the 2-0 we seized control of the game. Then you see that we can play very good football and score nice goals."
