Psv U21 failed to take points from the duel with N.E.C. It lost 1-2 at the Jan Louwers Stadium of city rival FC Eindhoven.

N.E.C. effective
In the opening phase, in which Young PSV had the better of the game, the danger mainly came from Mauro. In the first ten minutes, the Brazilian saw a cross after a good run only just ticked away from his feet, and moments later goalkeeper Branderhorst had an answer to a free kick from the midfielder. Although Young PSV had the better of the game after that, N.E.C. took the lead somewhat cheaply. After minor contact in the penalty area, the visitors were awarded a penalty kick, which was scored by Druijf. This tilted the game slightly, resulting in Okita's 0-2 shortly before halftime.

Organized
After halftime, Young PSV hunted for the tying goal and came close after an hour of play through Joël Piroe. The attacker had a free header six meters from the goal, but at the same time he gave Branderhorst too much chance to turn his effort away. So the scoreboard remains 0-2. Haar's team then looked for space to create danger, but time and again they came up against a well-organized N.E.C. Just before the end of the game they came back to 1-2 through an own goal by Sturing, but they did not claim a point.
