Young
Despite many chances, Young PSV failed to win against Jong Ajax. At PSV Campus De Herdgang it ended 1-2. Shurandy Sambo scored on behalf of the Eindhoveners.
Opportunity after opportunity
From the kickoff, the pace was high for both teams. Already after three minutes the first good chance came for Young PSV. After good preparatory work by Jeremy Antonisse, Nigel Thomas crossed. Jong Ajax goalkeeper Scherpen reached the ball just in time to prevent Mathias Kjølø's shot. Ismael Saibari also put Scherpen to work with a clever cross to Thomas. With another cross from Kjølø to Thomas, Young PSV had chance after chance in the opening stages. Within 10 minutes, there had been five convincing goal attempts. Still, Jong Ajax came up with another great opportunity. A high shot landed, via Maxime Delanghe's fingers, on the crossbar. In the end, it was the Amsterdammers who opened the scoring. A low cross from close range arrived and Delanghe was hopeless, 0-1. The initiative was soon back with the Eindhoveners. Fredrik Oppegård was dangerous with a tight cross. Antonisse also tried his luck with a hard shot that went just wide. Jong Ajax tried to double the score, but a cross was well seen through by Mees Kreekels, who recaptured the ball. Unopposed, Young PSV left for the locker room at the halftime signal.
Over and over again
The pace was also high in the second game. The first big chance was for substitute Cheick Touré. The striker was cleverly played in by Antonisse but could not pass Scherpen from a difficult angle. Saibari also had a free shooting chance shortly after, but his shot went over the goal. After good pressure it was Touré and Saibari again with a great chance, this time they just failed to take advantage of a defensive miscommunication by Jong Ajax. The Amsterdammers intervened just in time before a shot could be taken. Jong Ajax almost seemed to score again, but again Delanghe was not so easy to beat. Then it was Young PSV's turn. Shurandy Sambo was nicely played free and was able to coolly finish off from close range for the equalizer. However, the equalizer did not last long. On an attack by the away team, Delanghe was able to intervene well again, but the rebound came at the feet of an opponent who was able to tap in the 1-2. Just before the final whistle, Jong Ajax looked like it might have put the game away when an attacker got one-on-one with Delanghe, but an impressive last-minute intervention by Sambo stopped the goal. Despite no lack of effort, the late equalizer did not come. No points for Young PSV at home.
