Under the watchful eye of Phillip Cocu, Young PSV lost 0-1 to Fortuna Sittard on Monday night. At the Jan Louwers Stadion, the only goal of the match was scored by Roel Janssen. He scored a penalty after halftime.
Miss Bergwijn
With the likes of Pasveer, Maher and starting debutant Beto da Silva on the field from the kickoff, the first chance of the match was for Van Vlerken. The Young PSV back moved forward in the seventh minute, cut out his direct opponent, found space for a shot, but at the same time found the hands of goalkeeper Kaya. On the half-hour mark, Young PSV had a second good chance. After a dribble, Bergwijn was allowed to strike freely in the Fortuna penalty area, but he did so wildly that he shot the ball into the stands. Not much later Pasveer prevented a Limburg lead by keeping Schroijen from scoring from close range. Because Lundqvist's crossbar was then off target, both teams went to rest without a goal.
Hands Koch
After halftime that changed quickly, although it was not Young PSV that took the lead. Just under ten minutes into the second half, Koch made a hand gesture in his own penalty area, after which Janssen blasted the awarded penalty into the net: 0-1. Jansen's promising team could have equalized shortly thereafter if Lundqvist had kept an overview and played Bergwijn to the ball. The Swede, however, decided to go for his own success from a difficult angle and found nothing more than the side netting. Young PSV was unable to create any real chances after that and the defeat sees Fortuna Sittard approaching the top of the league table. The difference between the two teams is still one point in favor of Jansen's team.
