Young PSV lost 2-1 to Jong AZ on a freezing Monday night. The game was evenly matched in the first half, but after halftime the game changed and Young PSV scored two goals. Gakpo scored on behalf of Young PSV.
A match for each other
Despite the freezing cold, a few hundred spectators had come to the AZ training complex to watch the game between the two promising teams. PSV started well. Through Donyell Malen, Cody Gakpo and Ramon Pascal Lundqvist, it had a number of small opportunities to open the scoring in the first ten minutes, but no goal was forthcoming. The best chance of the first half was for the home side after 43 minutes of play. Striker Druijff was sent deep and shot just wide. The number of chances in the first half could be counted on one hand. Both teams gave little away at the back and were very evenly matched. The 0-0 halftime score was only logical.
Quick counter-goals
Just after halftime, the picture suddenly looked a lot different. Jong AZ had two big chances within five minutes and scored. Dennis Haar's team was 2-0 down. After the setback, the game went fairly evenly again and Young PSV had to chase. After 70 minutes Dennis Haar decided to make some offensive changes: Verreth came into the lines for Teze. Four minutes later the tying goal came: Gakpo headed the ball in and brought the tension back. Young PSV pressed in the closing stages, but could not score anymore. This was partly due to a number of saves by goalkeeper Olij. Thus, Young PSV again lost 2-1 to Jong AZ, just like earlier this season at De Herdgang.
