Psv U21 failed to turn the first home game of 2019 into a win. Under cold conditions, coach Dennis Haar's team fought back twice handsomely from a deficit against MVV Maastricht.
Quick goals
Already after eighteen seconds the ball was in the net. Via a cross from the right side, Joeri Schroijen, who also scored twice in the outward game, worked the ball behind goalkeeper Youri Roulaux. Young PSV had to recover and did so quickly. Joël Piroe was brought down in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot. Matthias Verreth remained ice cold and shot the equalizer. After some back-and-forth it was Justin Lonwijk who had the chance to make it 2-1. Wallenburg played the ball into the net for the midfielder, but Luuk Koopmans, who had been rented from PSV, turned his effort away. The miss proved costly, as MVV took the lead five minutes later. Right back Martina got through on the right side and fired a hard shot into the top corner to make it 1-2 at halftime.
Equalizer and red card
In the second half, Young PSV immediately tried to force a goal. But they did not get much further than long-distance shots. After more than an hour of play the team equalized. MVV's goalkeeper Koopmans was unable to handle a long-distance shot and Joël Piroe took advantage. Shortly after the goal, Young PSV found themselves with one man more on the pitch. Mares received his second yellow card after a foul on Kun. The Eindhoven players then tried to get the win, and just before time it was Zakaria Aboukhlal who came very close. The striker tapped the ball past the goalkeeper with his chest, but failed to get the ball into the open goal.
With this result, Young PSV is currently sixth in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. Next Friday the away match against FC Dordrecht awaits, kick-off 20.00 hrs.
