Psv U21 failed to take advantage of an early red card at MVV Maastricht. Peter Uneken's team lost 3-1 and returned from Limburg without any points.
Strong opening
Young PSV came up with the first danger of the match when Robin Schoonbrood was played free by Richy Ledezma, but his effort slid past the goal. In the first half hour, MVV had a number of chances but the predominance was with Young PSV. Amar Catic came close to scoring the opening goal, but his shot went just wide. Soon after came the biggest chance for the Limburg team but Mike van de Meulenhof blocked the effort. MVV got better in the match but defensive work by Tijn Daverveld kept Young PSV on their feet. After a second yellow card for MVV, the Maastricht team had to continue with 10 men just before halftime. No goal came before the whistle.
Quick deficit
Early in the second half, Young PSV found themselves behind. A quick breakaway by MVV resulted in a great chance. In the rebound Anthony van den Hurk shot for the 1-0. The Limburg block at the back proved difficult for Young PSV to penetrate. It was precisely the home team that got back in the game. From a free kick came a great chance for MVV and it was not missed. MVV closed the game in the closing minutes by again working the ball in from a free kick. Cyril Ngonge returned by scoring just after the kickoff, but it was not enough.
