With over 1,100 supporters in the stands, PSV Campus De Herdgang kicked off for the mini-topper against Jong Ajax. With three starting debutants, the pledge team struggled in the first half, but then turned things around completely.
Struggling start
For the first three quarters of an hour, Young PSV was mainly dangerous via the counter. That also meant that Jong Ajax had the ball more. And it also turned that into a lead, because in the 23rd minute Vincent Müller was passed. A long ball from midfield fell precisely between goalkeeper and defender. Ruud van Nistelrooy's team then showed resilience, but could not prevent going into halftime trailing.
Thunderous finale
What was not possible in the first half, came true in the second half. After five minutes, PSV took a 2-1 lead after goals by Nigel Thomas and debutant Dante Sealy. In the 78th minute, Johan Bakayoko put the final score on the scoreboard. Jong Ajax tried after that, but Young PSV was simply better.
