The first match of Young PSV in the new season of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie ended in a humiliation. The away team was 1-6 too strong for Peter Uneken's selection.
Early deficit
The first chance of the match was also the first goal. Maxime Delanghe was passed by the Rotterdam attack and after five minutes Young PSV were 0-1 behind. Halfway through the first half came a phase where the Eindhoveners managed to put a lot of pressure on Excelsior, but a goal did not materialize. Passes from Cheick Touré and Richy Ledezma failed to find an end. Shortly after, a doubling of the score seemed to come for the away team. But an excellent save by Delanghe blocked Ahmad Mendes Moreira's effort. Later, the Belgian goalkeeper had more trouble. A hard shot by Excelsior attacker Joel Zwarts was unstoppable for Delanghe. With a deficit of two goals, Young PSV went into the catacombs.
Humiliation
Young PSV got off to a flying start in the second half. After a free kick, the ball came to the feet of Emmanuel Manu Matuta, who took a fierce shot. His effort was blocked by the Rotterdam defense. Again it was the away team that managed to find the net again. A header could not be turned away and it became 0-3. Despite the goals against, Delanghe left his mark on the match. With several impressive reflexes, he managed to prevent a fourth goal midway through the second half. Half an hour before time, the newest addition Kristófer Kristinsson was allowed to make his debut, but it was not a dream debut. Twenty minutes before time, it was over and out for Young PSV when Justin de Haas scored an own goal. Five minutes before time, Young PSV came back.Kristinsson came very close to his first goal, but his header went on the post. The ball was not well cleared and Damian Timan shot in for the 1-5. It was too late for a comeback, minutes later Excelsior scored the 1-6.
