Psv U21 loses the first match of 2021 at home. Peter Uneken's team got back to 2-3 after trailing 0-3, but it was not enough for the points.
Painful counter-goals
Psv U21's first goal of 2021 was almost in after five minutes. A cross from Ismael Saibari gave Fredrik Oppegård all the space he needed to deliver a good cross, but Jeremy Antonisse hit the post from close range. The rebound came to Mathias Kjølø but he shot wide. Cheick Touré also came close, testing Go Ahead goalkeeper Michaelis from a difficult angle. Antonisse also took a shot on goal in the first quarter of an hour. Despite the supremacy, the first goal was for Go Ahead Eagles. The ball was stolen from Young PSV, allowing striker Van Hoeven to come face to face with Maxime Delanghe and score the opening goal. The second was also for the away team. Psv U21 was outplayed in their own half and through Delanghe's leg Go Ahead Eagles doubled the score. Without a rebuttal, the Eindhoveners left for the locker room.
Comeback not complete
Young PSV hoped to start the second half with the same ferocity as in the opening stages. But it was again the away team with the upper hand. A Deventer combination was not well stopped by Young PSV and the 0-3 fell in. 2021's first goal came anyway. In a smooth attack, Kristófer Kristinsson managed to get the ball behind Michaelis, 1-3. The Icelander almost managed to score again within minutes, but after a cross he was a toe length short of tapping the ball in. After a round of substitutions, Nigel Thomas entered the field. The striker had been between the lines for less than three minutes when he scored Young PSV's second. He held strong against the Deventer defense and rounded fine for the 2-3. With five minutes left on the clock, the Eindhoven talents looked hard for the equalizer, but it did not come in. Not a win to start 2021 with.
