How to become a professional footballer
This month the book "How to become a professional footballer" was published. Sport psychologists Jeroen Otten and Ivo Spanjersberg spoke to 76 (former) professional footballers, youth coaches and experts to answer this question. The book features a large number of former PSV players and staff members. Among others Toon Gerbrands, Gerald Vanenburg, Boudewijn Zenden, Joshua Brenet, Clint Leemans and many other PSV acquaintances give their vision on the issue. The book can be ordered through bol.com.
Joëlle Smits: ' I feel completely at home here '
Joëlle Smits is currently the woman in form at PSV Women. With ten goals in six matches, she is currently top scorer of the Eredivisie Women. The 19-year-old striker from Den Bosch gives an extensive interview about her career in the Brabants Dagblad. "I have been incredibly well received here and already feel completely at home," says the player. Her love for football began in elementary school: "As a six-year-old girl, I saw the boys playing football during the break. Then I knew: I want this too. I told my parents right then. Not much later I was a member of OJC Rosmalen."
Locadia: 'The championships with PSV were unforgettable '
After eight years with PSV, Jürgen Locadia left for England's Brighton & Hove Albion in 2018 for an adventure in the Premier League. Currently, the striker plays on a rental basis for 1899 Hoffenheim. Last weekend, he secured a starting place and scored his first goal for the German side. "In recent months I have worked extremely hard at training sessions to get another chance and our coach has seen and rewarded that. I am grateful to him for that and then it is nice to be able to do this," Locadia said in conversation with the Eindhovens Dagblad. The striker still has fond memories of PSV: "The championships with PSV were of course unforgettable moments and sometimes that Champions League match against Atlético Madrid still shoots through my mind."
Ihattaren develops quickly
PSV experienced a disappointment against AZ last weekend. Not only because of the result but also because of the absence of a large number of players. So also saw club watcher Reon Boeringa of Voetbal International. According to him, especially the absence of Mohamed Ihattaren is a big miss. "That is the man who provides the openings, creates the chances and someone who can turn a six into an eight," said the journalist. "It does say something about Ihattaren how quickly he has risen through the ranks of PSV. He has become important very quickly."
'Puzzling and picking up shards '
Yvonne van Beek and Rik Elfrink discuss the state of affairs at PSV in the "Clubwatchers" series. Despite PSV being in a lesser phase, Elfrink expects the team to recover at Sparta: "PSV just has a good selection. This week it's a matter of puzzling, picking up shards and continuing anyway. You also shouldn't make Sparta bigger than it is." Watch the entireepisode here.
