Almost four decades ago, he came on his bicycle from the dental technician to PSV, for his first day of work. Jan Reker, trainer of PSV's second team, pointed out his workplace to him. Almost 40 years later, he does it himself, as team manager. For years. Today (Friday, April 13), Mart van den Heuvel celebrates his 65th birthday.
Culture Guardian
Anyone who follows PSV knows no better than Mart van den Heuvel. Mart lives for PSV. He has by far the most years of service with the first team. A culture keeper and worn out by no means. Van den Heuvel was PSV's caretaker for over a quarter of a century. He had world class players like Romário and Ronaldo on his bench, just like so much of the current technical staff. From head coach Phillip Cocu to part-time assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Team manager
In 2008, after months of doubt, he traded his familiar tracksuit for the club suit. He hesitated, but since then has been busier than ever. Day and night he is ready for the players. He 'arranges' a dog for the daughter of Hirving Lozano, advises players on gifts and makes sure players get the right insurance. Rush hour? It is almost daily in Casa Mart at De Herdgang. "You are not only busy with the players, but with the whole organization of the first team. From transportation to care, you have to arrange everything. I really enjoy doing that," he told PSV Magazine in 2016. His role? "To keep everyone happy who comes to PSV. Helping the new guys and being ready for everyone at the first team."

Lighttown Madness surprised Mart Friday morning with a banner at De Herdgang. A wonderful gesture for the birthday boy Van den Heuvel, who is approaching retirement age. But quitting, Van den Heuvel is not thinking about that for a moment. "I would miss not being able to do this anymore. If I had to sit at home, I would go crazy. I need this work to release my energy. I always want to be busy. The first week of vacation is a drama every year. My wife always asks if we can't skip it. I'm just not enjoyable then."
