After almost ten years of loyal service with FC Twente, Renate Jansen made the switch to PSV Women last summer. This Saturday the experienced attacker will play for the first time against her old club. For her it is a reunion with many old friends, for PSV Women the first real test.
How did you like the first months at PSV?
"Very good! It's a very nice group of girls. Sociable and at the same time ambitious and that appeals to me."
What is your role in the selection?
"I'm someone who likes to try to get everyone involved. Organizing a lot of fun things off the field, talking to each other a lot. But on the field I do try to set a good example, give a lot of advice and help others."
Is there potential in the group to compete for the title?
"We won the first game, but this early in the season you can't say very much about that. Telstar didn't offer much resistance after the 1-0, so I think tomorrow will be the first real test."
How did you experience that match? You scored two goals and one was truly a beauty.
"That was indeed a very nice goal, which caused the ice to break a bit in the match. Before that we were maybe searching a bit anyway, but after the 1-0 we played very nice and attacking football and gave away very few chances."
To what extent were Telstar and the games in the preparation a good indicator?
"Of course we played very good games in the preparation, but also lesser ones. Still, I don't think you can say much about that. Preparatory games feel different from league games. I think tomorrow we will see how we really stand."
What do you expect from the first topper this season, against your old club?
"That's going to be a tough match, but we're confident. What I said, now we're going to see how we really stand."
A reunion with many former teammates, did you miss them?
"A lot of players left FC Twente this summer, but of course it is always nice to come back to the place where you have played for so long. And there are also many players I still know, so that's nice too. So I do feel like going to Enschede again, but to win."
