Hirving Lozano said goodbye to PSV and Eindhoven with double feelings after the last game before the winter break. The Mexican, who will soon leave for San Diego FC in the United States, is looking forward to his new adventure, but also knows that he will miss his family in the Netherlands tremendously.
"It's not easy," the outfielder admits during his last minutes as a PSV 1 player. "Not only for me, but also for my wife, because she feels very much at home here. We've talked about it a lot, and for her it's also a big change. But on the other hand, I'm really looking forward to it. It's a new challenge, and I'll soon be living closer to my home country, Mexico." Still, the striker tries not to dwell too much on the farewell. "I know it's going to be hard," he says. "I love the people here, the city of Eindhoven and PSV. This is a place where I've made a lot of great memories, and that makes saying goodbye tough."
San Diego FC
Hirving is excited about the future of his new club. "San Diego is going to be a big and important club. I believe I can learn a lot there and develop myself further, both as a player and as a person. It feels like an adventure that fits on all levels," he says. Chucky, family man pur sang, had long cherished the dream of playing closer to Mexico. "That I will soon be able to see my family and friends more often is something I really like," he said.
Differences
The outfielder looks back on his second stint at PSV with a good feeling. "Again it was a wonderful time, especially because we became champions," he says. At the same time, there is also a hint of disappointment. "I have often been injured and therefore I have not been able to play as much as I had hoped. But that's football, it's part of it. Overall, I leave here with a very good feeling." Chucky sees clear differences between his two periods in Eindhoven. "The first time I was 20 years old, everything was new to me. Philip Cocu helped me with so many things then, and I also learned a lot from Mark van Bommel. In my second period it felt different, maybe even better. We have a great team, and I enjoyed the level we achieved together."
Champion
Even after his departure, the Mexican will continue to follow PSV, even from the United States. "I can just watch the games despite the time difference, and I'm definitely going to do that," he says. "I think PSV has a team that can become champions again, and I expect that. If that happens, I'll definitely come back to celebrate!" When he has to name his best moment at the club, Hirving doesn't have to think long. "Those are of course the championships. I can't actually choose which one was more beautiful, but if I have to choose: the first one. Because that one was against Ajax, haha."
