Shurandy Sambo is going to the European Under-21 Championship in Georgia. The right back, who was leased to Sparta Rotterdam this year, replaces the injured Sepp van den Berg. Wednesday, June 21, Jong Oranje's group stage begins with a game against Jong Belgium, which includes Yorbe Vertessen.
The 21-year-old right-back will fly to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, this evening. The other opponents in the group stage are Young Portugal - for whom Fábio Silva plays - and the host country itself. On March 25 of this year, Shurandy already made his debut for the young national team. He did so in the 3-0 win against Norway.
Rental period
Shurandy has played in all PSV's youth teams since 2009. He made his debut for the main squad in 2021, but a long-term injury kept him out of action the following season. Last summer, the club management decided to rent him out for a year to Sparta Rotterdam. Shurandy made 36 appearances in a very successful season for the Dutch side. In those, he scored twice and provided the final pass once.
