Orange O20 (v) drew 3-3 against Argentina. And that evokes mixed feelings for the team of Robine Lacroix, Veerle Buurman, Fleur Stoit and Emma Frijns. The PSV enclave was once again important for Oranje O20 with two goals and two assists.
Just like in the first group game against Costa Rica, Veerle Buurman opens the score in the 16th minute. The team of coach Roos Kwakkenbos scores further in the first half through Bo van Egmond (2-0) and our own Robine Lacroix (3-1). Unfortunately, Argentina comes alongside in the second half, so Orange O20 has to settle for one point, and now stands at a total of four points from two matches.
Different football cultures
Had the youth team won, it would have been sure of the next round. Now they need at least one point in the final group match, in which group leader North Korea is the opponent. With six points and 15 goals from two games, the Asians are one of the favorites for the World Cup.
Coach Roos Kwakkenbos speaks of a learning moment for her team: "This is a World Cup with different football cultures. Other aspects come into play. These players have never experienced that before. In the first fifteen minutes Argentina tried to play football, but after that it became just physical fighting football with direct long balls and a lot of play. That is part of the game and we have to be more mature. In addition, we must continue to play our own game," Kwakkenbos looked back on the intense battle in Cali, Colombia.
