Daniel Schwaab played his last game at Philips Stadium on Wednesday night. Afterwards, the German who wore PSV's shirt more than 100 times spontaneously thanked the crowd that had stayed to finish the season with the selection. "I love you guys," he said.
Schwaab was handed the microphone after the match and spoke of a great time in Eindhoven. "I've had a fantastic time the past three years. With last year's championship here in the stadium as the absolute highlight. It was great to play for PSV. I love you guys."
The German was given a crowd change by head coach Mark van Bommel two minutes before time. His captain Luuk de Jong then went on the hunt for a goal to become only top scorer of the Eredivisie. That didn't work out, meaning he now shares that honorary title with Dusan Tadic. "We fought for a year, but it wasn't to be," De Jong commented after the last game. "It was a great year on many levels, but not great enough because we missed out on a prize. Next year we will go full for the title again."
