A crazy start to the second half of the season. A start nobody expected, because after PSV, Ajax also lost points at the resumption of the league. Read all about FC Emmen - PSV and the consequences in the title race here.
Saving angel
Crazy, Eindhovens Dagblad also found the 18th round of play in the Eredivisie. The newspaper called Sam Lammers PSV's saving grace. The PSV mercenary scored twice against Ajax in the match that eventually ended in 4-4. According to the ED, that makes PSV even the moral winner of the weekend. That Ajax - nota bene at home - also proved not infallible was perhaps the biggest surprise of the afternoon, the newspaper writes.
Taken hard on the fingers
According to De Telegraaf, PSV has been dealt a harsh blow with the 2-2 draw in Emmen. On Monday morning, the newspaper drew a comparison with last year's PSV, which invariably brought in an extra defender when they had a small lead. "We don't do that," Mark van Bommel responded. "We are not going to suddenly do something different in the last ten minutes. It's also not like we were under heavy pressure," the head coach said.
'75 minutes is not enough '
Defender Nick Viergever shared that opinion. "There was nothing going on at all, but after the 1-2 maybe we started to do something different," the defender told De Telegraaf and others afterwards. "We forgot to keep calm and make the right choices. You have to reach your level for 90 minutes. 75 minutes is not enough."
'This won't happen to us again'
Viergevers partner in the center, Daniel Schwaab, showed himself combative after the draw. Even before he knew about Ajax's draw, he told the ED that PSV would learn from the points loss in Emmen. "It happened now, but this won't happen to us again," the German said. Captain Luuk de Jong previously appeared to have a predictive gift. "You're always going to run into point loss at some point. It's going to happen to our rival again and even Paris Saint-Germain happens once in a while," De Jong spoke.
Warning
The Algemeen Dagblad calls the draw without consequences a clear wake-up call for PSV. In it, Maarten Wijffels draws a comparison with a year ago. Last season's 5-0 defeat at Willem II was such a warning, from which it seemed Phillip Cocu's PSV needed it for a while. It will soon become clear whether that is the case again under Mark van Bommel, Wijffels writes in his analysis.
