PSV Women will play their fifth cup final in ten years next Monday. At the Goffert Stadium in Nijmegen, coach Rick de Rooij's team will take on Ajax. De Rooij and captain Mandy van den Berg are ready for the battle. "We can save our season by winning the cup," De Rooij said.
Success
To be fair, Van den Berg admits that. "In the league, things haven't always run smoothly. The cup is a great prize. We know that all too well since last season. A club like PSV always has to compete for prizes until the end. This cup final is a chance to end the season with a success."
Wise words
After last season's cup success, De Rooij is certainly not yet satiated in terms of winning prizes. "Toon Gerbrands once spoke the wise words that more prizes will soon follow once the first one is won. Let's stick to that this Monday.
Same final
PSV-Ajax is the poster child for both the men's and women's cup finals. "That is very much alive within the group. We will also support the men in their battle. We will definitely be watching. Unfortunately not in the stadium because we ourselves are in full preparation for our own game. It would be very nice if both teams take the cup back to Eindhoven."
Critical
Van den Berg thinks PSV can still improve. "PSV belongs to the top of women's football. In recent years we have often played in the cup final. Unfortunately, we only won it once. The bar may be high at a club like PSV. That's also good and it keeps you on your toes. Hopefully next Monday we will improve this statistic a little bit. We are ready and looking forward to it," Van den Berg concluded.
