After another tumultuous premier league weekend, in which championship contenders PSV and Ajax both lost points, the media look back and look ahead to the consequences. All about the Eredivisie in PSV in the Picture.
Mixed feelings
According to the Eindhovens Dagblad, the players left Sunday for Eindhoven with mixed feelings. "Of course you regret not being eight points ahead now, but if you saw our drive...," said Nick Viergever in the catacomb of Stadion Galgenwaard. "If you fall behind 2-0 and still make 2-2, you have to be happy with a point and get on the bus satisfied. It's a plus that we want so much and always keep going. That's PSV's great strength this season."
'Boys it has to be different'
The mankker was not the only one who felt that way. "If you still come away with 2-2, that feels good on the one hand," said goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet, referring to the 2-0 deficit at halftime. "But on the other hand, you can't be satisfied with the first half." At halftime, PSV put their heads together. "We said, 'Boys it has to be different.' That happened after that, fortunately," Zoet told the Eindhovens Dagblad.
De Jong denounces pulling his shirt
Big man on the PSV side was Luuk de Jong. The captain saved PSV from defeat with two goals, but shared his annoyance afterwards. Week in week out, defenders literally try to play De Jong out of the match by hanging on. "I can't even give my shirt away with good decency anymore, it's broken," he said after the game against FC Utrecht. Referee Van Boekel, who, according to friend and foe alike, overlooked two penalties, thought his way. "You're just hard to defend," the referee said according to De Jong.
PSV can fall back on team spirit
No the title race is not over yet. But by fighting their way back from 2-0 behind to 2-2, PSV dealt Ajax another blow yesterday, writes the Algemeen Dagblad. "For us it's never a question whether we keep fighting as a team," Luuk de Jong responded. "We just do. You saw that resilience before. We also talked about that at halftime. I regret that we didn't get further ahead, but I'm also proud of our team," the captain said.
