With a fine goal and two assists, Cody Gakpo was able to distinguish himself in the match. The Dutch national team coach has also seen his form. The striker looks back on an inspired period.
Unleashed
In recent weeks, the striker has been unleashed. His good form continued against FC Groningen where he accounted for the first goal. Gakpo looks at his performance with pride: "I feel I'm back to my level. I always want to contribute something to the team, as a striker I prefer to do that with goals and assists. I know there is still a lot of progression to make, but I am happy that things are going so well now. Now it will be hard work to keep up this form."
Oranje
Next week, the Eindhoven native will join the Dutch national team. There he hopes to show himself: "Whether I'm going to play is up to the national coach. I'm going to do my best at training, that's for sure. After my injury I came back and the question was whether it would go well. With the Dutch Junior Team I loosened up and played good games. That will certainly have helped with my chances."
Corners
In this game, much of the striker's praise goes toward André Ramalho. The defender scored his first goal in red and white and was the enabler of an own goal. Worth the compliments, according to Gakpo: "Corners were difficult for us. We didn't often manage to score from them. But we paid more attention to it now and André is just a very good header. When I take a corner kick I know who to look for."
