Psv U21 has secured its first three points of 2018. In Doetinchem, coach Dennis Haar's team turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 victory. Cody Gakpo was the celebrated man with two goals.
Unhappy start
In a half-filled Vijverberg, the start of Young PSV was disappointing. Already after 12 minutes the team was facing a 2-0 deficit. After five minutes it was Nieuwpoort who opened the scoring on behalf of the home club, after which El Jebli made it 2-0 in fine fashion less than seven minutes later. Young PSV's answer followed quickly, through Cody Gakpo. The striker escaped the offside trap in the 17th minute and made his debut in professional football with a goal: 2-1. De Graafschap then had several opportunities to increase the margin back to two, but often found Eloy Room in his path.
Rigo, Room and Gakpo shine
About ten minutes after halftime, Joël Piroe had a nice opportunity to level Young PSV. A counterattack put the young attacker in a promising position, but Piroe was sufficiently hindered by a De Graafschap defender to take a good shot at the goal. For a long time, that was the only danger of the second half. Ten minutes before time, Van Mieghem had the chance to decide the game on the other side, but he could not pass Room. A mistake with consequences, because a few moments later Dante Rigo equalized from the penalty spot after a foul on Gakpo: 2-2. Room then kept Young PSV on their feet with cat-like reflexes, before Gakpo headed in the 2-3 in the final minute.
