Ernest Faber led his first training session as PSV's interim coach on Tuesday morning and then addressed a well-filled press room at PSV Campus De Herdgang. There it was about the upcoming matches against GVVV and PEC Zwolle, but mainly about his new position at PSV. 'After proper consultation, I said yes to help the club.'

Quick
"It happened very quickly," Faber looked back on Tuesday. "I was about to travel with Young PSV to England (that's where the pledges are playing the last match in the Premier League International Cup, ed.) when I got a call from the management. Eventually, less than a day later, I found myself in front of the group. After proper consultation with my management team and coordinators at the PSV Academy, I said yes."

Help
After giving his answer, Faber spoke briefly with Mark van Bommel. Faber said he made the choice to succeed him to help the club. "A year and a half ago I made a conscious decision to choose another career in football. The PSV Academy is in very good shape at the moment. You can see that among other things in the results, the development of the talents and of course the realization of the new building. But the youth academy is always supporting the first team. That also applies to me. I'm here now to help the club."

Successor
"Eventually there will be a definitive successor," Faber continued about the position of head coach. "For that search, the management now has ample time. No new Head of Youth Training will be appointed at this time. For the coming period I have been able to hand over some tasks. The line that has been initiated can simply be continued."

Assignment
The most important short-term task is getting results with the first. "The assignment is clear," Faber agreed. "The next two games must be won. Whether I feel pressure? That's what you're at PSV for. We all have to be able to deal with that." How he will do that? "There will be some different emphases," Faber said. "The guys are already doing a lot of things well, some things could be better. Everyone is above average in talent, just no one can do it alone. I'm going to try to help them as much as I can. We will have to start doing that together. Against GVVV that means playing with the knife between our teeth from minute one. Everyone knows what time it is," the Eindhoven native concluded.
