Despite not getting around to it earlier due to commitments with his club Hoffenheim, PSV will say goodbye to Johsua Brenet on Sunday afternoon. The defender left PSV for the German team last season.
From De Herdgang to basic player in PSV 1
Joshua Brenet made his debut on behalf of PSV in the UEFA Europa League match with SCC Napoli on December 6, 2012. The then A-junior, who can play both at right and left back, came on in the closing stages in Italy. Since then, Brenet, who trained at De Herdgang, has steadily grown into a member of the selection and a starting player in PSV 1. He made his league debut in the game with Go Ahead Eagles in August 2013. That same season, head coach Phillip Cocu added Brenet permanently to PSV's A squad.
Three times champion
A season later, Brenet celebrated his first success with PSV: the championship. A year later (2016) his second title followed and in his final season, as a regular left back, his third. Brenet also won the Johan Cruijff Schaal twice as a PSV player (in 2015 and 2016). In total, the Kerkrade-born defender played 150 duels for PSV, in which he scored four goals. In Eindhoven, he also grew to become an Orange international. On November 9, 2016, he made his debut in the Dutch national team. Four days later, against Luxembourg, he was in the starting lineup for the first time.
New milestone De Jong
In addition to Brenet, Luuk de Jong was also put in the spotlight before kickoff. The captain reached a new milestone last week by playing his 200th game in the PSV shirt against De Graafschap. From hands of Toon Gerbrands the captain, who earlier this year already scored his hundredth goal in PSV colors, received a memento of this special milestone.
