Under the watchful eye of over 1900 visitors, Young PSV won 2-1 against Jong Ajax. The Ajax players took the lead, but Dennis Haar's team turned the deficit around through a penalty by Ramon Lundqvist and a goal by Joël Piroe: 2-1. Thanks to the victory Young PSV passes Jong Ajax on the ranking of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.
Improvise
Both selections were quite depleted due to the international period. Improvising, therefore, for coach Haar, who saw that Young PSV got off to a difficult start. Through captain Bijleveld, Jong Ajax took the lead after a quarter of an hour. The midfielder outsmarted goalkeeper Van de Meulenhof with a shot from the penalty area. Young PSV eagerly looked for the equalizer. And it came: Verreth was brought down by Ajax goalkeeper Kotarski and Lundqvist took the awarded penalty: 1-1. Van de Meulenhof then made several fine saves on Ajax goal attempts. Out of nowhere Verreth almost made it 2-1 just before halftime, but his shot from the left hit the post.
Piroelets Young PSV triumph
The same Verreth was worth his weight in gold at the beginning of the second half. With a nice ball he set Piroe free in front of the goalkeeper, after which the striker coolly rounded off and put Young PSV ahead. The visitors then continually looked to attack, which made Young PSV shaky at times. Long-distance shots by Timber and Bakker hit the bar and Van de Meulenhof kept his team afloat with excellent saves. A big final offensive by Jong Ajax did not materialize and after an excellent counter attack Piroe almost made it 3-1. After some hectic final minutes with fouls and upsets here and there, the game was over. Three points for Young PSV, which continued the good line of recent weeks.
