Denzel Dumfries spoke of a deserved victory for his team after PEC - PSV. 'At times you saw the intentions the we have as a team,' the captain said after the 3-0 win in Zwolle.
That score was already on the scoreboard at halftime thanks to goals by Cody Gakpo, Donyell Malen and debutant Mario Götze. The German was on target after just eight minutes. "I'm especially happy with the minutes played and the victory," the leading player himself said afterwards for FOX Sports' camera. "The fact that I scored in the process is absolutely beautiful."
'Pleased with Mario'
"You see how well he can play football," Dumfries said of his teammate on FOX Sports. "I've only been connected for two days since the international period, but it's good that he's playing with us. A fine player."
With the early lead, the second half was one for statistics. "It was a little bit more difficult," Dumfries said. "We still wanted to hear it, but it was a little bit less." In addition to the good play, PSV gave up a number of chances that could have made the game more exciting. "That has to be better," Dumfries thought. "We know we have a good goalkeeper, but we shouldn't let it get to that point too often."
Luck and insight
A word about Götze's goal. Was it luck that he picked up a return ball or progressive insight after all? "A bit of both," Götze laughed. "It gives a good feeling to play football again, win and score. The fitness is good. I need a few more games there to be 100 percent fit and hopefully that will be soon."
