Denzel Dumfries, despite the disappointment of the late goal, was proud of the way his team had fought Ajax. The PSV captain felt his team deserved more. 'We battled and fought,' he told ESPN.
Penalty kick
Dumfries made his statements barely five minutes after he caused the penalty kick from which Ajax equalized. The penalty was scored by Dusan Tadic, who then treated Dumfries to a tirade of abuse. Both captains had to be separated after the final whistle. "I can have a lot, but you shouldn't talk about my mother," Dumfries said of the incident. "I know what he said. Swearing is fine, but you shouldn't. From my mother you stay away."
Frustration
About the result and how it came about, Dumfries was clear. "This is frustrating. You think you make the 2-0, but it gets disallowed," he said, referring to the disallowed goal from Yorbe Vertessen. "Both teams thought it was played. It hurts that it goes wrong again in the last minute. I think we battled and fought. For us it doesn't fall the right way. That's super sad."
