Dumfries celebrated: 'I was pissed'

PSV recorded a hard-fought 2-1 victory in Groningen on Saturday night. Denzel Dumfries decided the premier league match against FC Groningen just before time with the liberating goal after a clever solo. "I was pretty pissed that it didn't go my way," Dumfries said.

Frustrations
The right back said so afterwards on FOX Sports. Those frustrations came largely from the way PSV started the match. There was no question of underestimation, according to Dumfries. "We didn't start well, came a step too late everywhere, didn't tackle the duels well and we really did that to ourselves," said Dumfries, who exploded when he allowed Malen to make it 1-1.

"I was pretty pissed that it didn't go my way. And it was only my first assist of the season, that bothered me quite a bit." In the end, he was totally the celebrated man when he tapped in the 1-2. "I thought: I'm here anyway, let me shoot it in. No kidding. The only thing I thought was: don't shoot hard. That worked," laughed Dumfries.

De Jong praises Dumfries
Captain Luuk de Jong did not see a good game from his team. "It was definitely not good today. We weren't ourselves in the first half, but fortunately we equalized just before halftime. That saves a lot for the rest of the game. The second half was a little better and then we had chances. That Denzel delivers an assist and scores just before time is very nice. I'm happy with this win."

According to De Jong, last Wednesday's Champions League game against Tottenham Hotspur did not affect the league match against FC Groningen. "We're extremely fit and we'll just keep going. I think it was the opponent's players who went to the ground with cramp."

'Sour penalty'
Referee Danny Makkelie gave FC Groningen a penalty kick in the first half after an alleged foul on De Jong. The striker disagreed with Makkelie's decision. "He first pulls my shirt causing me to fall and taking him to the ground. It's very sour that we got a penalty kick against for that."
