Denzel Dumfries could smile again Saturday night on FOX Sports. After a series of lesser results, the captain told his story after the home game against Willem II with a deserved win: 'Finally another wonderful night for us.'
'Now moving forward again'
"It already started with that fantastic action by the supporters tonight. They were waiting for us with torches and banners. Superb," said the captain who put PSV up 1-0 with his third goal of 2020. "This victory is for all of us. The club, the fans, the players, now we are moving forward again."
Happy and relieved
Ernest Faber was obviously pleased with the first three points of 2020. "Of course everyone is happy, but also relieved. You can talk until you weigh an ounce, but you have to go out and win one time. I am happy that it turned out 3-0," Faber said. The interim coach thought PSV played well in the first half and saw his team take a deserved 1-0 lead. In the second act, his team fell back. "Constructively it was underwhelming after half-time. We gave away the initiative. However, we did remain steady. We're not there yet, but it's nice for everyone. Maybe now the tension will ease a bit. Let this be the start of a nice series in the coming weeks."
Thomas: Hopefully we can put everything behind us
Faber saw against Willem II his pre-conceived tactics with Ryan Thomas as a false second striker work out perfectly. "It's been a long time since I stood there," the 2-0 creator said to FOX Sports, laughing. Then referring to the Willem II defense, "They had a lot of problems with it. That was also idea, creating some chaos with their central duo. It gives a good feeling to be able to crown that with a goal. We really needed this win a lot. A lot has been said in recent weeks. In the media, but also within the club. Hopefully we can put all that behind us now," Thomas said.
