PSV lost the away match against Olympiacos FC. In a match rich in goals, it was 4-2 against Roger Schmidt's team. For a long time, PSV, where Mario Götze made his return, had the prospect of more than that.
Construction
The German playmaker was sidelined for almost two months due to injury and showed at times against Olympiacos FC what PSV lacked those months. Götze roamed the field and was constantly available in the build-up. Yet the team had to concede a goal after only ten minutes. From a free kick by Valbuena, Bouchalakis headed in the 1-0.
Resilience
PSV's response followed with lightning speed. Eran Zahavi put the equalizer on the scoreboard in the 14th minute. After a nice action, the striker had some luck in finishing. His shot changed direction and hit the target: 1-1. After Olivier Boscagli dropped out (head injury), the home team took the lead again in the 37th minute through a distance shot by M'villa. Again, PSV showed quick resilience in the person of Zahavi. Three minutes later, he nodded the 2-2 against the ropes.
No third comeback
Nevertheless, PSV sought the locker room with a deficit. El Arabi snatched the ball from Timo Baumgartl (substituted for Boscagli) in the injury time of the first half and left Yvon Mvogo defenseless: 3-2. After halftime, PSV answered - in minutes played at least - almost immediately for a third time and again Zahavi took the lead. This time, after a foul on Philipp Max, he was allowed to take a free kick from the edge of the sixteen, which exploded at the post.
Big thump
After that, a status quo developed on the pitch. The Greeks were no longer in need of anything, while PSV created little. As the game progressed, it seemed as if Schmidt's team did not want to allow another goal, given the nice starting position that the two away goals give in Europe. However, the team failed to do so. Masouras made it 4-2 in the last ten minutes.
