PSV Women have established an excellent starting position in the Eredivisie Cup. Thanks in part to an outstanding Joëlle Smits, the team won 5-1 over FC Twente.
With the returning Cecilia Santiago in the starting lineup, PSV started the match excellently. Good actions by Kuijpers immediately created danger. Snoeijs and Van Dooren did not yet manage to find the net, but after only ten minutes of play they scored. Nouwen headed a Van Dooren corner in hard and fast. And it did not stop there. The women kept the pressure on and took a 2-0 lead moments later. After another good move by Kuijpers, Smits scored her first goal of the match. The same Smits was the end of a great attack by PSV Women. Via Snoeijs and Yüceil the game was moved well to the right side. From there Coolen gave a good cross to Kuijpers and she then passed the ball in one go to Smits. Both teams went to rest with a 3-1 score, for FC Twente Jansen scored a nice shot.
Four goals for Smits
There were fewer goals in the second half. Sander Luiten's team played a controlling game and did not let the home team get into the game. Chances were created with beautiful football, but Snoeijs' and Van Dooren's sights were just not sharp enough. Unlike Smits, who ended the match with four goals behind her name. First, she cleverly conquered the ball and rounded it off nicely, then she was well reached by Yüceil and shot the controlled in. In the closing stages, PSV was still able to run out to a bigger win, but shots by Levels, Snoeijs and Pattiwael did not find the net.
A very handsome and well-deserved victory for PSV Women. Which plays next Friday in Enschede the return in this first round of the Eredivisie Cup.
