As goalkeeper of a winning team, Walter Benítez sometimes has little to do. Against Feyenoord, however, his team called on the goalkeeper on several occasions. The MOTM did everything but fail and prevented four last-minute goals.
It rarely happens, but Walter was passed twice Sunday afternoon. Only in the 5-2 victory over Ajax, did the goalkeeper incur more than one goal. Despite the setbacks, the Argentine goalie was rightly voted Man of the Match. The goalkeeper defused several big chances from the Rotterdammers. For example, he controlled Santiago Giménez in a one-on-one and stopped a dangerous shot by Lutsharel Geertruida.
'Wallter'
Walter has shown himself to be a stand in the opponents' way on a number of occasions this season. During the Eredivisie season he kept his goal clean thirteen times. That is the highest number of any team in the Dutch league. Especially just after halftime he was frequently put under fire in a ten-minute span. A peal by Giménez, an attempt by Geertruida and a shot by Thomas Beelen were all expertly cleared. Walter has outmaneuvered his opponent many times this season and manages to produce a 75% save percentage.
Walter also played a strong game in football terms, as more than half of his sent long balls found a teammate. He saw a total of 83% of his passes end up with a colleague. Walter also knows that percentage this season when it comes to his passing accuracy in all league games so far.
Compliment
Only in that league game against Ajax did Walter make more saves than he did in Sunday's game. Against Feyenoord he prevented four goals, while against Ajax a total of five saves were recorded after ninety minutes. In 24 league games he made a total of 39 saves between the posts for PSV
