He is the epitome of PSV success this season: Luuk de Jong. Victories of the collective were accompanied by personal highlights, and this season's finale was entirely in style with his rock-solid statistics.
With two goals against compatriot RKC Waalwijk and a Man of the Match nomination, Luuk ended the season in style. With seven titles as best player on the pitch, he is at the top of the league table. Because of his two goals in the last round of play, he may receive the Willy van der Kuijlen trophy. It is the second time the captain has been top scorer of the Eredivisie.
Goals, goals and more goals
In the second game Luuk scored his first goal of the season. Visiting Vitesse, he scored the liberating 3-1, which was the start of a series of five games with at least one goal. That included two UEFA Champions League goals. RKC Waalwijk, NEC, Go Ahead Eagles, Sparta Rotterdam, Ajax, Heracles Almelo, PEC Zwolle, AZ and Excelsior Rotterdam all saw Luuk score in the first half of the season. By the winter break his tally stood at fifteen league goals and seven assists.
In the second half of the season, the goal-scoring machine remained lubricated, and after the resumption, Luuk scored seven goals in the first six league games. Catching up in the last six Eredivisie games, in which he found the net seven times, brought him the top scorer's title. Ten with his right foot, ten with the head and nine goals with his left.

With that, he averaged one goal for every 96 minutes of play. In fact, he played an average of 82 minutes per game. Luuk proved to be a tease for every opponent and tried his luck towards goal about 4.3 times per appearance, of which 1.9 attempts ended between the posts. 20% of his attempts were converted into a goal.
Impact
Only Joey Veerman has been the frontrunner for a goal more often than Luuk this season, but the difference is minimal. The captain gave fifteen assists, bringing his total to 44 goals and assists combined. This makes him by far the most valuable player of all eighteen teams in the Eredivisie.

On average, 74% of all his passes this season arrived to a teammate. Luuk shot six of seven penalties, won more than half of his of all his duels and 37% of his dribbles were successful.
