Everyone can remember the memorable match against Feyenoord earlier this season. PSV came back from a deficit twice, Luuk de Jong scored a hat trick and Memphis decided the game in injury time. Sunday is the return of this game. At 2:30 p.m., PSV will take on Feyenoord at De Kuip.
Memphis debut
Three seasons ago, Memphis made his debut in the PSV shirt in this game. He entered the field for Zakaria Labyad in the ninetieth minute as an eighteen-year-old player. PSV lost that match 3-2. In the sequel, Memphis played 82 games in the Eredivisie for PSV, in which he scored 33 goals. At De Kuip, however, Memphis never scored.
Last win in 2009
The games at De Kuip that Memphis witnessed after his debut were all lost. It has been five years since PSV got a result at Feyenoord. On Sept. 20, 2009, PSV won 1-3. Within twenty minutes Danny Koevermans had scored twice and fifteen minutes later Otman Bakkal made it 1-3, just after the 0-2 Andwelé Slory had shot the 1-2 against the ropes.
Pellè matchwinner
Last season, PSV went down 3-1 in Rotterdam. Adam Maher put PSV ahead after 21 minutes, but Jean-Paul Boëtius equalized just before halftime. In the second half, Graziano Pellè scored the 2-1 from a penalty kick and Jeffrey Bruma was shown a red card. Then Pellè also registered the 3-1 and missed another penalty. In the summer, the Italian left for Southampton along with coach Ronald Koeman.
Battle for third place
Feyenoord are number three in the Eredivisie and feel the hot breath of AZ, Vitesse and PEC Zwolle on their necks. Together with these clubs Feyenoord is fighting for third place, which entitles them to direct entry to the Europa League. The Rotterdammers have done well in the battle for third place recently, taking ten points from the last four matches. As AZ in particular have lost points in recent weeks, the gap with Alkmaar has increased to four points.
At least second with a draw
PSV have already won twice in a row and head coach Phillip Cocu's team is back in a flow. With a draw against Feyenoord, PSV can no longer be beaten by the Rotterdammers and that means that PSV will finish at least second this season. A draw brings PSV to 71 points, as many as Ajax needed last season to become champions. A win will therefore put PSV over that point total, winning away games at both Ajax and Feyenoord since the 2007-2008 season. That season also marked the last time PSV won both games at Feyenoord and became champions.
