Head coach Phillip Cocu was convinced after his side's equalizer after halftime that PSV would leave Venlo with three points. "When we got to 2-2, I felt we were going to win," said the coach, who eventually saw it become 2-5, proving him right.
Aggression
"Until we got the lead, we played well," Cocu analyzed the match afterwards. "After that it slowly became less. We became a little less aggressive on the ball, a little less aggressive in switching and then give away the equalizer."
'Defeat unnecessary
That equalizer (a penalty) took Cocu a little longer to arrive. Nicolas Isimat grabbed his direct opponent by his shirt at a cross, after which referee Danny Makkelie whistled for a penalty kick. "It happens to him too often," Cocu thought. "He needs to improve this aspect of his game quickly, I told him that too because it was completely unnecessary."
Lesson
Immediately after halftime, PSV suffered another blow in the form of VVV's 2-1. "We had to recover from that for a while, but in the end that moment woke us up. We made the 2-2 in time and then I felt we were going to win. Moreover, we showed that we learned lessons from the last time we faced ten men."
