Head coach Phillip Cocu is delighted with the mental resilience PSV showed in the 2-3 win over Excelsior. His team played the last 20 minutes with ten men and twice came back from a deficit.
1-0 led turnaround PSV according to Cocu
"I think we played a difficult first half, in which we had few chances and lost a lot of ball on this rough pitch," Cocu began at the press conference. "At halftime we discussed how we could turn that around and then it's a bummer that you get behind so quickly. That was the moment we stood up as a team, though. We became sharper, won more duels and scored goals. I can only compliment the team for the mental toughness they showed once again. It was an eventful week and that takes a lot of energy. I am very happy, this is a great achievement," Cocu said.
Dijkhuizen: "Painful defeat"
Excelsior head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen was considerably sour from Jürgen Locadia's 2-3 in injury time. "Again we don't have luck on our side. It's a painful defeat. We get two leads and then you're actually in safe harbor given the results earlier on Saturday. You just have to get a point after that 2-2, even then I would have been satisfied. That doesn't happen, we still give away the 2-3. I find that very amateurish. Fortunately the results are favorable, but I would have liked to be here differently. Still, I am convinced that we will get points. It will be all right," Dijkhuizen concluded positively.
