Balking, several PSV players faced the press late Thursday night in the catacomb of the Philips Stadium. A 0-0 draw against LASK Linz, despite a good number of good chances was received disappointingly. Among others by Steven Bergwijn and Mark van Bommel.
The PSV head coach saw his team dominate almost the entire match. PSV created chances, big and small, but a goal did not come. Not even in the closing stages when Kosta Mitroglou came on as an extra striker. "I didn't want to bring him on earlier because we created a lot of chances. Besides, it is difficult to substitute in a game like this," Van Bommel said in front of RTL's camera.
The head coach complimented his team's football. "I thought we deserved to win. Certainly the first half hour was very good," Van Bommel continued later at the press conference. "We short-changed ourselves a bit," he added in closing. Van Bommel was particularly charmed by the play of Steven Bergwijn. "I thought Steven played fantastic football, he was the best man on the pitch," said the coach, who saw the striker suddenly pull leg after a long sprint in the closing stages. There was then brief contact between Van Bommel and Bergwijn, after which the outfielder said he could continue.
In front of RTL's camera, Bergwijn addressed that himself: "We have to wait and see how it goes. I wasn't actually bothered at all, until I put in a sprint. Then it kicked in. Then it pulled away again and that's why I said it was OK. But it ended up feeling stiffer and stiffer. It's a little stiff, I have a little cramp. But we are going to look further in a moment and tomorrow," Bergwijn said of his hamstring.
