The last eighteen duels PSV and Willem II played against each other (away and home) were all won by PSV. A record in the Eredivisie. The last defeat in Tilburg dates from March 28, 2004, in this edition of Back in the days a look back at a number of games at the Koning Willem II stadium.
Van den Eede nails PSV
In the early spring of 2004, PSV last lost to Willem II. Bart van den Eede was the big man back then in Tilburg with two goals in the 3-1 win by the Tricolores. The game only ignited after halftime with Tom Caluwé's 1-0, after which Van den Eede notched his first goal of the afternoon. Johan Vonlanthen did bring PSV back to 2-1, but a goal in injury time from Van den Eede again decided the match.
PSV close to title in 2006
Almost exactly two years later, the roles are reversed and PSV takes a big step towards title prolongation in Tilburg. On March 25, PSV won 0-3 against Willem II in a not too good match. Ismaïl Aissati put PSV on track after only 5 minutes by making the 0-1, a score that was doubled by Eric Addo shortly before halftime. Arouna Koné provided the decision exactly one minute after halftime: 0-3. Two weeks later, PSV could uncork the champagne after a 1-1 draw against FC Groningen.
Twice 1-3
The last two editions of Willem II - PSV both ended in 1-3. Last year it was Phillip Cocu's team's first game of the season and after a deadly efficient opening phase, goals by Jürgen Locadia and Memphis made it 0-2. Willem II came back to 1-2 before halftime and even had great opportunities for the equalizer in the second half, but it did not fall. Indeed, it was Memphis who later decided the game from the penalty spot: 1-3. A year earlier Willem II was missing from the Eredivisie, but the year before that the Tilburgers were there. In that match Mark van Bommel was extremely important for his team by putting PSV 0-1 up after a difficult start with a shot from distance. Also then, the final score was 1-3.
