Luuk de Jong and Johan Bakayoko have both won awards at the Eredivisie Awards. Luuk was named Eredivisie Player of the Year and Johan was voted Johan Cruijff Talent of the Year. In addition, our captain also received the Willy van der Kuijlen trophy.
Besides Luuk, Dávid Hancko (Feyenoord), Vangelis Pavlidis (AZ, now SL Benfica), Sem Steijn (FC Twente), and our own Joey Veerman were also nominated for the award. Of course, only one can be the best, and that became our captain. Luuk was involved in 44 goals in the 2023-2024 season, 29 of which he scored himself. This also earned him the Willy van der Kuijlen trophy. He shares this trophy with Vangelis Pavlidis.
Talent of the Year
For his part, Johan Bakayoko trumped Ruben van Bommel (AZ), Jorrel Hato (Ajax), Yankuba Minteh (Feyenoord, now Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club), and Youri Regeer (FC Twente) as "Johan Cruijff Talent of the Year. In the 33 games Johan played in the Eredivisie, he managed to score 12 times and gave 9 assists. With this, he was an important link in the championship team of Head Coach Peter Bosz.
Bakayoko was named Johan Cruijff Talent of the Month no less than three times last season (October, November and April). The nominees were chosen based on statistics and votes.
