Young PSV suffered its first defeat in the Jupiler League on Friday. In Almere the team of coach Dennis Haar lost 2-1 to Almere City FC. As a result, it sees direct rival De Graafschap, which did win, equalize in points in the battle for the period title: 16 to 16.

Laursen hits crossbar
After a quarter of a game with no events worth mentioning, the first chance was for Young PSV. A big one, moreover. After a smoothly running attack via Marcel Ritzmaier and Lennerd Daneels, Nikolai Laursen was allowed to strike in front of an almost empty goal, but to his own surprise he only found the crossbar instead of the net. Other than that, both teams mainly played pinpricks. A first half without goals was the logical outcome.

Substitute Konings gives hope for a moment
To maintain the good starting position it had in the battle for the fourth period title before the match, Young PSV went in search of the opening goal after halftime. However, the home team opened the scoring. In the 52nd minute, Salasiwa left Koopmans defenseless with a well-aimed shot into the far corner: 1-0. About twenty minutes before time Young PSV made a dangerous breakthrough, but a shot by Daneels could be blocked just in time by an Almere City defender. Five minutes later the goal was scored. Substitute Joey Konings tapped Young PSV alongside in the 75th minute on a pass from Marcel Ritzmaier: 1-1. Haar's team went in search of the winning goal, but Mirani made it 2-1 five minutes before time. Laursen went close to scoring for Young PSV, but the Dane hit the unfortunate underside of the crossbar.
