Every week Gracenote finds out all about the matches PSV plays. Thursday is the return in the Europa League. In Greece, PSV lost 4-2, so it will have to play at home.
Home game
In the away game, Zahavi scored twice before halftime. However, he could not prevent PSV from starting the second half 3-2 down. It remained with those two goals. Olympiacos did get another goal. Giorgos Masouras passed goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo in the 83rd minute, ending the match in 4-2. As a result, PSV must win by at least two goals at home to advance to the next round.
Back to 2012
The last time PSV qualified for the last sixteen was in the 2011-2012 season after the club defeatedTrabzonspor in the first knockout round. Valencia was then ultimately too strong (6-2 over both matches). The year before, PSV advanced another round after beating Lille OSC and Glasgow Rangers. Then S.L. Benfica was the finalist in the quarterfinals.
Malen
Donyell Malen, if he scores against Olympiacos FC, could end up in an illustrious list. Indeed, at 22 years and 37 days, a fifteenth European goal would make him the youngest player ever to score that many goals for a Dutch team. Players such as Johan Cruijff, Luis Suárez, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, and Søren Lerby preceded him. They all scored the fifteenth at age 23.
Suspension Sangaré
PSV lost only once (W3-G3-V1) out of the last seven times it played a European knockout match at home. That happened on Feb. 19, 2015, when one goal was enough for Zenit to walk away with the spoils. Due to a yellow card in the outward match, Ibrahim Sangaré will have to watch from the stands. It was his fifth yellow card which means an automatic one-match suspension.
