The final affair at home this season is scheduled for this Sunday. PSV can secure second place and thus qualify for the third preliminary round of the Champions League. After an earlier victory in Friesland this season, PSV can win both Eredivisie matches against SC Heerenveen for the first time since 2011/2012.
Thirty times already the Frisians have visited Philips Stadium. Nineteen editions PSV took the three points. That compares to seven draws and four defeats. Earlier this season, PSV stepped off the pitch as the winner after a thrilling final phase. For a long time it seemed to end in a draw, but Cody Gakpo became the matchwinner by scoring in the 75th minute. Winning at the Abe Lenstra stadium, that had not been achieved for nine seasons. Sovereign at home
PSV-1 lost only one of its 22 home matches against SC Heerenveen in the Eredivisie this century (W15-G6-V1). That was a 3-2 loss on Feb. 27, 2009. Danijel Pranjić provided the decision in injury time with a well-taken penalty kick (90+1').
Handsome series
PSV can book at least seven wins in a row in the Eredivisie for the first time since November 2018 (13 wins). Under Mark van bommel at the time, they recorded that series from round one. The last win in that series of thirteen was a 3-0 home victory over SC Heerenveen.
Red and blue and white
Ruud van Nistelrooij played for SC Heerenveen in the 1997/1998 season. As a player he scored in the Eredivisie both for SC Heerenveen against PSV (1x) and vice versa (2x). He is the only player to have done so.
Old acquaintance
The game against SC Heerenveen will be a reunion with old acquaintances. We will meet Jeffrey Bruma, who played 129 matches for PSV. He won the Dutch national championship twice and the Johan Cruijff Schaal once. PSV's Joey Veerman has a Friesian past. He played 81 matches at SC Heerenveen.
Goal-scoring magnet
Luuk de Jong (107) passed Hallvar Thoresen (106) on PSV's top scorer list in the Eredivisie against Fortuna Sittard. With thirteen goals and three assists, he is on target again this season. He is two goals away from his 150th Eredivisie goal and could become the 16th player to record 150 goals.
Simons' talent
In each of PSV's last six home games in the Eredivisie, Xavi Simons has been a goal-scorer. This century, only Jefferson Farfán (6) and Luuk de Jong (6) have scored in at least six consecutive home matches of PSV in Eredivisie context.
