PSV kicks off the Eredivisie season Saturday night with a home match against RKC Waalwijk. Last year's number fifteen forms the first hurdle on the road to title prolongation. The last time PSV played in the season opener against RKC Waalwijk, it left empty-handed.

PSV ended the 2023-2024 championship year with the exact poster with which the new football year begins. On May 19, PSV won 3-1 over RKC Waalwijk, thanks to goals by Luuk de Jong (44', 82') and an own goal by Julian Lelieveld (86'). Richonell Margaret (16') had opened the scoring for RKC Waalwijk and former PSV player Jeffrey Bruma received a red card in the 81st minute.

Defeat in 2012
In 2012-2013, PSV visited the Mandemakers Stadium in the first round of play. Jeremain Lens opened the scoring as early as the 8th minute, but an own goal by Wilfred Bouma equalized after 12 minutes. Then Rodney Sneijder put RKC Waalwijk ahead with two goals. Tim Matavž brought PSV back into the game, on a pass from Memphis Depay, but could not prevent defeat (3-2).

Brabant derbies
The last time PSV lost points against RKC Waalwijk was in 2014 (2-0). Since then, PSV has won all 9 encounters. At home, the statistics are impressive: 23 wins, 3 draws and 1 defeat. Provincials historically do not thrive at all at Philips Stadium. Indeed, PSV is already 74 Brabant derbies unbeaten at home.

Transfers
2023-2024 is in the books as an absolute success year. This season, for the time being, Head Coach Peter Bosz can call on many of the same names. There are a total of five departures and two newcomers.
